Gary Beard

Gary joined Hurley Group in July 2017, leading the general practice primary care sector of the group as Director of Operations. Gary is responsible for the delivery of exceptional quality general medical services for the patients registered with Hurley Group practices, as well as maintaining and developing relationships with partner organisations through local Primary Care Networks, and across the wider healthcare system. Gary is a member of the Primary Care Committee and the Hurley Group Transformation Board, and has a particular passion for General Practice turnaround, and improvement projects such as premises redevelopments and digital transformation. Instrumental in the implementation of the Clinical Pharmacist in GP Practice Programme, a collaboration with Kings College Hospitals NHS Foundations Trust, Gary introduced innovative and integrated medicines optimisation and management for the Hurley Group patients through the recruitment and development of a team of Clinical Pharmacists allied to the clinical team.

Gary made an active decision to join the NHS in 2006 following a career in banking, taking the position of Practice Manager with a large high achieving GP practice in Surrey. Having gained a wealth of experience working at the coal face of primary care, Gary progressed his NHS career by taking up the post of Locality Manager with Lambeth Primary Care Trust and quickly progressed to Head of GP Contracts, managing all GP practice contracts in Greenwich borough for NHS South East London Cluster. Most recently, Gary worked as Assistant Head of Primary Care for NHS England, leading a team of commissioners and contract managers covering GP and Pharmacy contracts across South East London before returning to the provider side of the NHS with Hurley Group.
